Analytical Report: Role and Status of Media in Afghanistan
Over the past two decades, media in Afghanistan has been one of the most significant achievements of civil society. With the expansion of television, radio, and digital media networks, public awareness increased, allowing people to make their voices heard by authorities. However, recent political and social developments have created major challenges for media freedom and journalists.
Situation Analysis:
In recent years, Afghan media has played a key role in information dissemination, transparency, and combating corruption. Today, however, many media outlets face financial difficulties, legal restrictions, and security pressures. Reduced financial support has led to the closure of dozens of media outlets and the loss of hundreds of journalist jobs.
Moreover, the growing spread of fake news and misinformation on social media has undermined public trust in news sources. A lack of media literacy among the population has further exacerbated this crisis.
